SwingingFriar Too Many Thoughts

Haven’t felt good all day and I still can’t sleep. When I hear something on tv and it triggers a thought, my first reaction is to write it down. But on this night, my thoughts are jumbled and I’m not sure where to start. This is the first holiday in 27 years that I’ve spent without my family. It’s not that I’m not greatful for the family I’m marrying into, because they have been nothing short of amazing to me. I don’t want to move back to where I grew up, that’s not my intention, but I keep w… Continue

bloglist US President Expected to Announce Afghanistan Policy Tuesday

U.S. news organizations say President Barack Obama plans to announce his new strategy for Afghanistan on Tuesday evening, during a prime-time television address.

The reports say the president is most likely to back a plan to send between 30,000 and 35,000 additional U.S. troops to the country.

The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan earlier this year told the president that up to 40,000 troops are needed to combat Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the region.

Iorange The Holidays

I’ll be the first to admit that I hate Holidays, well I hate three of them. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my birthday. My birthday shouldn’t be considered a holiday, but for some reason your family and friends turn it into the most important day ever. Which seems nice at first, but then you realize you gotta act surprised, and you’ve gotta entertain all of these people, and all of the attention is on you. Then it’s not so great it’s more like a chore. Just leave my presents at the door, and leave… Continue

Kellie Rasberry The exercise bike has arrived!

Lunch with the girls yesterday. Our friend Amy E works at a school and can never join us, but she's off for Thanksgiving week. Of course to help her celebrate, I joined her for a glass of wine. All the other ladies had water. Amy E and I are rebels. After that I ran home and the maids were still in my house. They're never there that late, so I had to find excuses to stand around outside my house and not look stupid. It's weird to be in your house when a team of maids is doing all your dirty wor… Continue

Big Al boring!

I woke up this morning at about 2:30 and I haven’t been to sleep yet. For some unknown reason, my sleep meter is way off and I cant get it back on track. No problem. I’ll just deal with it. that’s pretty much the way things have been going. Queso seems to be doing better. She was really depressed for several days after stretch died but she is lots better. But she is kinda stinky right now. Haha. Anyway, im going to stay in town this thanksgiving. I normally go to mexico for thanksgiving but my s… Continue

SwingingFriar A Time to Reflect

This time of year is special to almost everyone. It's spending time with family and friends. It's the smiles, the laughs, the stories of holidays gone by. Some of us will remain home, inviting everyone over to their house to celebrate or perhaps going to someone else's home that lives close by. For others, it's time to pack up and drive to where you're going or perhaps board a plane destined for your holiday location. However you're getting there, it doesn't lessen the anticipation of this tim… Continue

Jenna Black Friday Online!

Why get up at 4am to go wait in long lines and maybe not get what you want when you can sit in your pajamas and buy things from home? -Some retailers actually start their online sales as early as Thanksgiving day. Sales released so far: This was JUST released and it’s pretty awesome. The… Continue

Kellie Rasberry Christmas come early.

Never in my life has my Christmas tree been up this early. I don't know what got into me yesterday, but Emma Kelly had just gone down for a nap and I took that as my golden opportunity. Id I didn't try to get that thing up when she was down for the count, it would be a nightmare trying to do it when she was awake. I got most of it done before she was up -- still need to do the finishing touches. But luckily she woke up Grumpy Butt and started huffing, "It's not Christmas yet! Put it back!" So sh… Continue

Big Al big al the plumber!

It was a weird chain of events on Saturday to say the least. I was at a sports bar watching some college football and enjoying my afternoon and my phone rings. It was one of my tenants calling me to tell me that she has had to cut her water off because there was a problem with the fixture in the bathtub and the water wouldn’t cut off. So im thinking this shouldn’t be a huge problem. I called a plumber. No answer. I called another one, no answer. I finally get one and they tell me it would be at… Continue

Kellie Rasberry AMAs

Emma Kelly is just exhausting right now. Much like walking and potty-training, she's delayed her terrible twos until now. I wish she would learn to be embarrassed. She'd be much easier to control. The AMAs. Well, I missed the first hour of it. But apparently, I can't imagine I missed much because everything I'm seeing tweeted about is on the stuff I saw. I'm going to give Jennifer Lopez a break on her fall. I didn't think it was that funny and I don't like to see somebody I like have an accide… Continue

Amy Guerich High

So....the last 10 days or so have been pretty cool. Last Friday, a few colleagues and I headed out to Denver, CO for a leadership conference for a board that we serve on. We got to meet people from all over the country that are doing what we do. It was a really good experience, and I got to bond with my colleagues which was nice. The only drawbacks were what seemed like endless amounts of snow and the fact that I was SO exhausted when I got back. The girl that I was filling in for at work offi… Continue

bloglist The 'Twilight' Zone

We know. You hate "Twilight." You don't want to hear anything more about "Twilight." That's why this is not another story about the "Twilight" or "New Moon" mania, nor will it rhapsodize on the vampire craze, nor does it contain an interview with Robert Pattinson. This is a story about shame. All across the country, there were women who managed to avoid Stephenie Meyer's series about a star-crossed human/vampire teen couple. (Vampire Edward lusts for mortal Bella, but also for her blood; the b… Continue

bloglist Twilight: Pattinson in New Moon breaks midnight record

The new Twilight vampire movie took a record $26.3m (?15.9m) in midnight showings at North American box offices, studio Summit Entertainment has said. That beats the previous North American record of $22.2m (?13.5m) for midnight openings, taken by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in July. Experts have predicted that New Moon will have one of the biggest opening weekends for a non-summer film. The first movie in the series, starring Robert Pattinson, made $69.6m (?42.1m). It is expected… Continue

bloglist Hacked E-mails Fuel Climate Change Skeptics

Hundreds of private e-mails and documents hacked from a computer server at a British university are causing a stir among global warming skeptics, who say they show that climate scientists conspired to overstate the case for a human influence on climate change. The e-mails, attributed to prominent American and British climate researchers, include discussions of scientific data and whether it should be released, exchanges about how best to combat the arguments of skeptics, and casual comments — i… Continue

Big Al i need sleep!

I don’t think Ive ever been more ready for a weekend than I am right now. No, I don’t have any exciting plans. Im just exhausted. Maybe its because I haven’t been sleeping well. The first 2 nights this week, I was up at 2:30 in the morning and I couldn’t go back to sleep. Anyway, im very excited to be able to sleep in for a couple hours on Saturday. Next week, we should know for sure the details of the family that we are going to help for the breaking and entering Christmas. We have had hundred… Continue

Kellie Rasberry Chunkday

The best part about my child getting sick is how snuggly she is and how it also gave me an excuse to cancel my workout. I couldn't possibly be doing calisthenics and whatnot while my daughter is threatening to blow chunks again at any minute! Actually, the blowing of the chunks was done before I got home. Nanny Laura had to deal with the joy of cleaning that off the couch and going through three outfit changes for the BOTH of them. I can only imagine....But Emma Kelly still had fever and thus ca… Continue

karen bisnette Mammogram blunder

Dear Kellie: I love your show and find it funny and taken with a grain of salt, but I was very upset with your comment on Monday in requards to the Mammogram. I am 51 and I have had several mammograms over the years and I have always been treated with the utmost care. The tech always work quickly so I don't have to endure one second of discomfort longer than necessarey. They even apologize and warm their hands if they are cold. This is not a fun exam, but your careless comment on how the techs "… Continue
